The viewer, experience music through the bandstand eyes
The project is about designing experiences within precise areas of Glasgow. The main activity centres on ‘researching by doing’ and ‘thinking through making’ where an artefact takes central stage.
The Bandstand in Kelvingrove is a point of reference for the Glaswegian musical scene since the whole century. The viewer is an urban tool designed to let people experience concerts and public life’ moments through years. Surfing the history of the Glaswegian venue, its social and cultural importance is suddenly clear.
Many concerts from the early 20’s have taken place here and somebody had the great idea of recording or filming them. These media are the focus of my research together with the aesthetical change of the site. The viewer is among all a database of video, pictures and sounds, evidences of the history of a city and its inhabitants.
